I mentioned in a previous journal entry that my sister Casey has cancer (there are links in that entry to pictures of her).

Updates:

1. The nodules in her lungs are reacting very well to the chemo. If she needs surgery on her lungs, it will be to remove only one or two, as opposed to five or six.

2. She hasn't gotten her leg amputated yet; the original plan was to do it at the end of the summer. When they went over the scans and drew up a plan, her surgeon realized that they'd be severing all the nerves controlling bowel and bladder function. So we're putting off the surgery until early 2010, and hoping the tumor shrinks enough to save those nerves. If it doesn't, she will have a colostomy bag and a catheter. The nerves may reattach, but probably not. However, her nerves have not been reacting as expected (in a good way!). So who knows.

3. She won a Victoria's Secret contest (unofficially; drama and scandal!) where the prize is a 3 day trip to New York City with a spa treatment and other things (like a $500 VS gift card) for her and a guest (me!). We're going to NYC the first weekend of December. Our hotel is super swank; the confirmation says it's $645/night. I am hoping one of us has a window seat so I can take pictures out the plane window like Ketene.
