So, I think everyone who actually reads this knows already, but I'll throw it here anyway.
My sister Casey (pictured
here,
here, and
here) has cancer (If you think she looks young for cancer, she is. She's 19). It's osteosarcoma, meaning the tumor came out of bone. It's basically filling the entire space between her pelvis, hip and spine on the right side (and ate through part of her hip to poke out of her back a bit). We've known for a couple weeks now (we found out about the tumor the day of my graduation ceremonies), and she's started chemotherapy (her hair is already starting to fall out). Sometime later this summer she's going to need to get her entire right leg and part of her pelvis amputated. She'll probably also need surgery on her lungs, because the cancer has metastasized to several nodules in both lungs that may not disappear with chemo alone.
I've mentioned it in a few photos already, but I wanted to put this here. I'll probably be doing a lot more related photos, but mostly blow-off self portraits because I'm really. busy. I'm her primary caregiver, and she can't drive with her giant bone-eating tumor, for some reason. With her chemo schedule, there are 2 weeks where we're basically living at the hospital, and then 2-3 weeks at home (speaking of, I moved into my own place in Milwaukee so she wouldn't have to live with our parents. They were driving us both nuts. Especially her).
So, yeah. This sucks.

nothing is real and the real is surreal...
I have been checking out your gallery from time to time and
I find your self portrait work very powerful and I particularly like My Own, for its composition and the way your figure emerges from the darkness of the rest of the frame.
Bravo.
